ADAS System Development Trends
With the rapid advancement of smart vehicles and autonomous driving technologies, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have become an indispensable core feature in modern automobiles. By integrating sensors such as cameras, radars, and LiDAR with control units, ADAS enables functions like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and automated parking, enhancing both driving safety and comfort.
These functionalities rely on real-time processing of massive data, making in-vehicle communication architectures increasingly critical.
Traditionally, CAN Bus (Controller Area Network) has been widely used due to its advantages of high reliability, low cost, and multi-node support, making it suitable for powertrain and chassis control systems. However, standard CAN only supports transmission speeds up to 1 Mbps, and even with CAN FD reaching 8 Mbps, it still cannot meet the high-bandwidth requirements of ADAS for image and sensor data transmission.
To address this challenge, the automotive industry is increasingly adopting high-speed Automotive Ethernet technologies such as 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1, which provide higher bandwidth and lower latency for data transmission.
Future in-vehicle networks are expected to evolve toward a hybrid architecture, where CAN Bus ensures stable control signal transmission, while Automotive Ethernet handles high-volume data applications, effectively supporting the development of intelligent and autonomous driving systems.
Automotive System Safety Protection
Automotive electronic systems must operate reliably in harsh environments, which imposes far more stringent safety and reliability requirements than typical consumer electronics.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) is one of the most common and destructive threats, potentially arising from assembly, maintenance, or even everyday operations due to static charges from humans or tools. Without adequate protection, ESD events can damage controller ICs, cause ADAS malfunctions, and even create road safety hazards.
To address this, international standards such as ISO 10605 and AEC-Q101 define strict ESD testing and protection requirements for automotive electronic modules. Modern vehicle electronics must integrate ESD protection components into critical communication interfaces like CAN Bus and Automotive Ethernet, ensuring stable operation even under ±15kV ESD stress. This approach helps prevent quality issues and safety risks caused by ESD-related failures.
